What is baptism?
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It is a public declaration that a person belongs to Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31-34). Baptism does not save anyone; it is a sign and celebration of the salvation already received by faith (1 Peter 3:21). The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that changes the believer’s life.
Why should I be baptized?
Jesus commanded baptism and set the example by being baptized Himself (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 1:9). Obedience to Jesus demonstrates that we believe in and follow Him (1 John 2:3). Baptism publicly testifies that we have turned from sin and turned to Jesus, the only One who can change us (Acts 2:38-41).
When should I be baptized?
Baptism is the next step for everyone who has decided to follow Jesus. Anyone who has genuinely committed his or her life to Christ is ready to be baptized (Acts 8:12).
Does Resonate baptize children?
Parents can and should point their children to Jesus, but each person must personally repent and believe the gospel (Romans 10:9). Only those who profess faith in Christ are proper subjects for baptism.
Do I need to be baptized again?
If you have not been baptized by immersion after you decided to follow Jesus, we encourage you to take that step. Once you have been baptized as a believer by immersion, there is no need to be baptized again.
Why baptism by immersion?
The word “baptize” comes from a Greek word that means “to dip” or “to submerge in water.” This is the mode described in the New Testament (Matthew 3:16; Acts 8:38). Immersion best pictures the believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4). No other mode of baptism illustrates this as clearly. Just as Jesus’ baptism pointed forward to His own death and resurrection, our baptism also points to our future resurrection with Him.
